Thank you for the insight! I hear protection can last a lifetime but if not then at least a decade. I think my s/o plan is to check yearly during her annual physicals, but I imagine as time goes on she might become more comfortable and at ease and not feel the need to check so often. (Although it certainly doesn’t hurt! Especially since she’s getting checked for other things anyways so I might just encourage it to be on the safe side)
I think once I did ask my PCP to help me check “if my vaccine still protected me from hepB”, but I think she misunderstood me and checked if I was positive for it. I’ll ask again when I see her this year!
@Tran-ng haha well at least you were able to find out that you’re not positive for it!
Good day everyone, please I have someone questions and I need an answer. I’m 5 weeks pregnant and my doctor said I have to continue taking TDF throughout the pregnancy I’m scared please has anyone experienced this before won’t it affect my pregnancy? My doctor said it’s better that way else it will be dangerous if I stop treatment I’m scared please help me.
Hi @sadia,
First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy. As mentioned above here, many studies have been done and TDF has been shown to be safe for both mother and child. Many people on this forum have taken this antiviral during their pregnancy and have had good experiences. What specifically are you worried about?
Would be great if other mothers could comment with their experiences: @Olive, @Anni2, @Sonshine4u
Cheers,
Thomas
Thank you for the reply. But what I’m concerned about is the fact that tdf affects the kidneys and bone density won’t it affect my baby too or cause any birth defects? I’m sorry but I had a pregnancy loss in 2023 even though my doctor said it was not caused by the medication but I was being paranoid about the medication being the reason for my loss because I had no issues. And please does TDF causes infertility like does it make it difficult for one to conceive?
So sorry to hear about your loss @Sadia.
There have been multiple studies over large numbers of people taking TDF and there doesn’t appear to be any indication that it increases birth defects or affect the baby in any way. I have not heard about anything about TDF causing infertility either.
Thomas
Hello Sadia,
My first pregnancy, i have taken tdf. I give birth and breastfeed him. But after 6 months the pharmacist called me and advise to stop giving breast feeding because they dont have a lot of testing done to babies with mother giving breast feeding after the 6 months period who is taking the drugs.
My oldest is now 5 years old, growing and healthy.
It is always a battle in my mind, having a baby + hepa B, having a partner who is also my advocate going to check ups help a lot.
Just to clarify again, breastfeeding is still recommended and safe even while on antiviral therapy, as mentioned above.
