Interesting discovery but wondering how mouse study results can be compared to human ones. I guess can’t ?
Hi @sorte,
Yes, it is an interesting discovery and it’s not clear yet exactly how this drug works. My reading of the paper suggests the drug that worked best ccc_R08 has 2 potential side-effects: CYP1A2 induction and phototoxicity (severe sensitivity to light). When they used a related drug with less side-effects (ccc_R09) in a model that was closer to patients (humanised mice), they didn’t see such a large effect. However, it is exciting that there is even an approach that could theoretically target cccDNA specifically.
There is also a comment of this study written by Prof Fabien Zoulim and @BTestoni (Eliminating cccDNA to cure hepatitis B virus infection - ScienceDirect), but it would be great if other @ScienceExperts could provide additional comments on this study.

Thanks for the reply What means phototoxicty for human patient in that case ? What are possible side effects ?
Sensitive to light. Possible sunburn.
Phototoxicity basically means your skin is very sensitive to light and can develop blistering or rashes when exposed to light.
