Hi everyone.Im Jeo, 29y/o. Been needing for insights about my latest lab results. I’m diagnosed 5 years ago but my recent results are bit confusing for me.
My Recent Results Indicate;
Date of Test: July 16, 2024
HBV DNA - Not Detected (method used COBAS Amplirep) Started Around 95million IU/mL before I started taking antiviral med “Vemlidy” (2021) HBsAg - Reactive Anti - HBS : Reactive (11.53mIU/mL) HBeAg - Reactive (52.80 with cut-off value of 1.00) Anti - HBc Total - Reactive (6.38 with cut-off value of 1.00) SGPT/ALT - 25.83 U/L
I’ve been on anti-viral meds started mid 2021. Im confused that how come my HBsAg and Anti - HBS are both reactive. Is there any explanation for this result? Maybe it came just the results to be false + from the Lab?
Are there any HBV monitoring tests that I should do besides the listed above?
Hi @Jeo,
Welcome to the community and thanks for you question. You are correct about your results not making sense. It is possible that the anti-HBS test is a false positive or a reporting error. It is not possible to be surface antigen positive and yet have immunity against HBV. Your doctor can re-confirm this test again by ordering a new test for you. Aside from that, your results are looking great. The Vemlidy is doing its job well. Keep up with the good work.
If you can get Ultrasound where you are, that could be something that your doctor can add. This will provide imaging of your liver to see what condition it is in. This test is always paired with the blood work for monitoring patients with chronic hepatitis B. I hope this is helpful and sorry about the late response to your message. Bansah1
Thank you for your time and response. And Yes, I should get another round of Blood Tests to confirm my results. I’m also grateful for the response my body on taking Vemlidy.
For 3 years of taking my meds, I don;t feel any side effects aside from flaring/aching from lower right side of my ribs, maybe from previous experience, it occurs once every month. Any thought of what could it be?
So, Ultrasound paired with correct blood tests are enough for monitoring chronic Hep B?
It’s hard to say exactly what it’s that you experience each month. Are you sure you are not anxious because of the past experience? Our body has a way of playing mind games with us at times, if it persist try having a conversation with your doctor about it. Yes, currently those are the ways to monitor patients who have chronic infection and on treatment or are not. Keep us posted. Bansah1
HBsAg but quantitive result would give more information for specialists here. I think it’s possible to have very low HBsAg and low HbsAb same time but let’s wait for experts insight.
