Help me ..Chronic inactive carrier

hello ,
iam 34 years old . i was diagnosed with hbv 14 years ago . i did not take any treatment as my pcr was below 1000 copies and normal liver function . now my pcr became negative so i did quantitaive hbsag four months ago and it was 20.2 iu/ml … i repeated it this week and it became 14.4 iu/ml .i just did some exercise and took whey protein , glutamine and creatine . so my results now as the following

  • hbsag 14.4 iu/ml
  • pcr for hbv undetected
  • hbeag negative
  • normal liver function
  • u/s normal no fibrosis except for slightly increased liver span without obvious reason .

so guys if i take interferon (pegasys) in such stage for 6 months , should i clear and serocovert ? or wait for bepirovirsen to be available ??

Hello @Ahmed_Shahin,

It seems that with such low amounts of HBsAg, your own immune system is already doing a great job at eliminating the virus. This is actually quite rare in people in their 30s as far as I know. Did you ever test positive for surface antigen antibodies? Can you perhaps share some of your life routines that may be a contributing factor to your good prognosis?

As for your question, while you are in the lower HBsAg range to consider Interferon treatment, but Interferon doesn’t have a good track record of clearing chronic Hep B. You should ultimately consult with your doctor to see if they would consider putting you on Interferon. You can express to them that you are interested in starting the treatment and see if they are willing to try it.

In Canada, it’s hard to convince specialist to start Interferon treatment because it doesn’t have a good track record of achieving functional cure after treatment is stopped and the supposed side affects are severe in some patients.

Take care!

thanks for your reply sir . i just do exercise and take supplement as i mentioned . i think glutamine has a great role in boosting immunity and proper T-Lymphocyte function, also good sleeping habits seems to refresh immune system .
i already asked a specialist for interferon and he refused due to possible side effects .
i never did a hbsab test …i will do it soon and see its titre if positive .

Welcome @Ahmed_Shahin
Do you have a specialist doctor?
Supplements will not have much affect on your liver in the point of the hepatitis B virus. It will not change the fact that you have the virus and will not stop it progressing. That’s what research says.
It’s important to get six monthly blood tests and ultrasounds and be monitored by a Doctor, who will recommend what is good for you and tell you what you should do.
Exercise, low-fat food, vegetables are good for the liver, but they won’t remove the virus. They will help to keep your liver healthy, as well as being monitored, but I will not lower the virus. I hope I’m making sense. Keep in touch

Hi @Ahmed_Shahin,

Welcome to the Community!

I agree that it looks like your immune system may be in the process of clearing the HBV infection. That is good news, but only time will tell whether it will fully clear the virus or suppress it to a very low level (both outcomes are good!). As suggested, getting an anti-HBs test would be informative (being anti-HBs would be a strong sign of an effective immune response).

Interferon might work to increase chances of clearance, but it can be a difficult drug to take for some people. Are you seeing a hepatologist or a more general physician? I suggest seeking a formal consultation with one who can go over your full medical history and discuss your options with you.

I wish you the best,

John.

i asked hepatologist for interferon for such low hbsag and he totally disagreed due to its possible effects . iam opthalmologist and want to work in saudi arabia and they refuse hbsag positive doctors :smiling_face_with_tear:
i will do anti-HBs test and wait for bepirovirsen to be released
thank you

Sorry to hear that @Ahmed_Shahin, that’s really an unfair decision by Saudi Arabia. I was also refused Interferon for the same reason, the medical field is not big on starting patients on Interferon at this time.

I can understand why @A7xImpulse @Ahmed_Shahin
It is not a very nice treatment to be on. I have heard that the side-effects are horrible. I know of one person personally, and they said they would not want to go through it again.
Our medical professionals can give you more information when they are available. I think the success rate is not high also and this is probably why they don’t want to make it available.
