Hi @bob,
This appears to be a reputable study (authors include @Pietro_Lampertico, an expert who helps us here on HepBCommunity) and is published in one of the top journals in hepatology research.
Perhaps @nina.le.bert as our resident immunologist can provide some more insight into this though.
Cheers,
Thomas
I can say for me at least, taking it as a supplement - wow the effects are WILD. Got so much more energy. Way stronger effects than any other supplement I’ve tried (and I’ve tried literally hundreds of them)
This is the short term report at least, let’s see for medium and long term
Hi @Bob,
I wouldn’t necessarily extend these results to suggesting that NAD supplementation is good for chronic Hep B. These are tests in a dish and it’s not clear that the NAD that you take as a supplement gets into your system in high enough levels to generate the changes seen in these situations.
Thomas
what brand and dose do you take ?
I wonder if this is somehow related ? NAMPT promotes hepatitis B virus replication and liver cancer cell proliferation through the regulation of aerobic glycolysis - PMC
Does some other nad+ precursors may have impact on this ?
Very interesting article you shared there thank you. My high level take of it is that HBV deliberately creates ROS (ie creates a generally toxic local environment for the cells) and inhibits glucose use by infected cells to stop them from being able to have a good immune response to the virus (and in my interpretation this could be where the exhausted immune response comes from in CHB, which is the reason it’s chronic), and that by increasing NAD+ levels those effects can be fixed because they are there in the first place in part by depleting NAD+. (Standard disclaimer: In a petri dish which usually doesn’t translate to mean it’ll work in humans)
The form I’ve found that I like the best so far is manufactured by “Uthever” and branded by some other company and I got 100 grams of it as loose powder that comes with a spoon. I’ve been taking about 2 grams a day, which is double the generally accepted upper limit of how much to take, though nobody really knows
I’m confused.
The title of this post says “NMN good for hbv”
but then someone else posted “NAMPT bad for hbv” I think.
What are the literatures saying? Are they giving conflicting results/opinions or that the conclusion is uncertain?
High NAD+ tends to decrease NAMPT, and low NAD+ tends to increase it - the two things have a circular relationship
And to answer the question about NAD+ increasing supplements besides NMN, it would seem direct NAD+ IV therapy (which is increasing in popularity in recent years) might be the ultimate form of it. But I don’t know if anyone knows how much that increases it compared to NMN or other precursor supplements
i took NR and nmn for years but i also took many immune modulators so it is difficult to say which one was working to lower hbsag.i was on tdf+etv those years
my hbsag declined during those years, especially before peg “4500iu/ml to about 1500iu/ml”.after pegintf+tdf declined to around 700iu/ml.
when i add peg (2014) i discontinued etv, then on 2021 i stopped tdf due to humeral osteonecrosis and switched to etv 1mg, hbvdna became detecatble below 10iu/ml only one time in 2022
i used tdf+etv at the begining because after being und for few months i had hbvdna around 30 few times, so i prefered to avoid any detectable hbvdna having compensated cirrhosis at that time
i might try nmn again to see
i had some sciatica lately whenever taking any nad boosters, anyone has any idea why?maybe some vit B deficiencies, i always took folate+b12 and added B1, b6 P5P few months ago
thank you
hello there,
How many years and how much did you take NR and nmn?
And what was the reason why you took those supplements?
Did you consult with your hepatitis doctor regarding taking those supplements?
Since you were on tdf and etv while you were taking NR and nmn, no one knows for certain if the supplements were effective in lowering hbsag…
I am sure that your dna was undetectable when you took tdf and etv alone. Would you know how NR and nmn improved your health situation in any way?
I appreciate your post!
I’ve been injecting nad+ for awhile now and I seem to have some aches and pains now. I never did before but now I think I know how an old man feels
It’s worth it though because it also seems to be helping with my energy levels, which were extremely bad
No idea of what the mechanism behind it is, just sharing anecdotal experience
sorry for late replay and english mistakes/confused writing this answer, i have very little time and very busy this period.
How many years and how much did you take NR and nmn?
NR many years, used as antiaging and regain swimming power like in my youth.nmn about 2 years
And what was the reason why you took those supplements?
antiaging
Did you consult with your hepatitis doctor regarding taking those supplements?
no, local liver specialists are absolutely ignorant, especially on this matter, they just apply guidelines like a robot.i have more knowledge on liver disease and i just use them for prescriptions
only researchers in Pisa hospital have real, indepth medical knowlege about everything, not just liver disease but when fibrosis and nodules of cirrhosis reveresed complitely i stopped visiting there because it is very far from where i live and i have to take filghts.i’ll go back there only if i choose to get cured and experiment again with pegintf+nucs+gcmaf+vitamin d coimbra protocol doses as i did before
Since you were on tdf and etv while you were taking NR and nmn, no one knows for certain if the supplements were effective in lowering hbsag…
i started antiaging protocols after peginterferon add on and i was on tdf only during those years of NR/nmn use, the effect of those antivirals was none on hbsag, it even increased to 7200iu/ml on first years going back to baseline on 4th year.
hbsag was lowered in a couple of months from 4500iu/ml to 1500iu/ml using a mix of immune modultory molecules before adding peginterferon to nucs so i could have a chance of pegintf making any effect
trl7 activator, ezetimibe, extremely high doses of vitamin d3 as per coimbra protocol 50.000-150.000iu daily, gcmaf were the molecules used before pegintf add on to lower hbsag to about 1500iu/ml
in the end i had more hbsag decline from those molecules than peginft itslef and i even made the mistake to stop those because the lab made a big error on hbsag quantitative testing (same lab used by the trial)
So during treatment i stopped gcmaf and high dose vitamin d and hbsag relapsed from 1000iu/ml to 1800iu/ml, side effects of pegintf developped (none previously) and subclinical hypothyroidism developped…then it took a couple of months to regain response.i was not allowed to see all tests during treatment so i had to retest on my own at the same lab as the trial, complicated.
at the end of treatment hbsag was 699iu/ml and slowly relapsed to 1350iu/ml during the next year on tdf only then it slowly got back to about 700iu/ml.i used NR/nmn during those years
hbsag stopped lowering now and stays 600-700iu/ml, maybe etv 1mg is too weak vs tdf or maybe NR/nmn had some effect
unfortunately i can t use nad precursors now because i get sciatica after few days
I am sure that your dna was undetectable when you took tdf and etv alone.
hbvdna relapsed to 31iu/ml on etv 0.5mg first year so i started combo etv+tdf and got und.
after pegintf add on it never got detectable on tdf mono but when i switched to etv 1mg it got detactable below 10iu/ml one time, so i chose to use 12g of spiruline and it never got detactable again
Would you know how NR and nmn improved your health situation in any way?
i combo too many things but i definitely look younger today than 10 years ago.my dna methylation is always lower than my cronological age (-8 years few years ago) and of course l absolutely dont look 54yo, i am told i look in my late 30
my blood tests are all in the optimal range within the normal range, at the moment i am way more interested in staying young (health aspects of being younger included) than getting cured of hbv unless it comes without side effects like on replicor drug
of course it is not just taking some supplements or research molecules, it is also a way of life and food you eat (nothing toxic, no sugar, no refined carbs, 14-16hrs fasting while sleeping at night, organic food only that you grown yourslef in your garden whenever possible).immune system super strong compared to past, every bug stopped by fever by few days, no throataches/lungs involvement…i am only very sensitive to refined foods, if i eat for more days continuously my gut gets inflammaed and stools change, diarrhea/mouth sores develop
