Hello and thank you for allowing me to join the community. I see that there is a world of knowledge and support here.
I am pregnant and during routine bloodwork, I tested as ‘reactive’ on the HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIBODY QL (picture below). The standard reference is ‘non-reactive’.
The nurse called and said she wanted to do the test again. This time, I tested ‘reactive’ again on the HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIBODY QL, with the standard reference being ‘non-reactive’.
We also did the HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGEN, HEPATITIS B CORE AB TOTAL & HEPATITIS B CORE ANTIBODY (IGM). Those results were all ‘non-reactive’ with the standard range being ‘non-reactive’. (picture below)
I’m so confused and cannot get a call back from my doctor. Does this mean I have HEP B??
THANK YOU!!!
Hi @ Kind88
You are welcome to hepbcommunity forum. According to your question, you don’t have HEP B . Your hepatitis B profiles are the results of triple panels test ( HBsAg, Anti HBs , Total anti HBc).The first panel test that you should see and interpret is Total antiHBc , no test for IgG anti HBc alone is commercially available.Your Total anti HBc (IgM and IgG) showed non reactive, so it means that you are not infected with hepatitis B virus .Total anti HBc develops in all persons with HBV infections. You don’t need to be tested for IgM anti HBc if your Total anti HBc is negative. Anti HBc indicates that person with non immune exposed to HBV and the virus can enter hepatocytes and form ccc DNA and the body immune systems fighting against infected hepatocytes to clear the virus and test positive for anti HBc which can persistence throughout life.Your anti HBs reactive alone ,it means that you have antibodies to HBV from vaccine if your anti HBc and HBs Ag are non reactive. I hope this may help you to understand and interpret HBV profiles correctly.

Hi @kind88,
Welcome to the community. @chul_chan is correct that you do not have hepatitis B and you have immunity/antibodies against it. One thing you can do is to ask your doctor to check your HBsAb titer. If it’s 10 or higher then you are good. Should it be really low say 5 or below then think about getting a booster. But right now you don’t have to worry because you do not have HBV. Thanks, Bansah1

You don’t have HBV. I believe you were vaccinated for HBV in the past. That is why you tested reactive (positive) to HBsAb, but non-reactive (negative) to HBsAg and HBcAb. Please make sure your newborn baby receive the 4-dose standard HBV vaccination (this is not for prevention of infection from you, but from others). You may get a HBV booster if your HBsAb is less than 10mIU/ml.
