Pregnancy and safety

Hello everyone,

I am wondering about my situation. I am a male with chronic Hepatitis B (HBV) diagnosed in 2022. My condition has been normal, and I have been taking entecavir 0.5 mg orally. My HBV DNA viral load sometimes shows “not detected,” and other times it reports “<10.” According to my lab reports, HBsAg is detected, HBsAb is <10, HBeAb is detected, HBeAg is not detected, and HBcAb is detected. Tests for Hepatitis A, C, and D are not detected. My ALT levels are between 80-90.

I am planning to have a baby, and my wife is fully vaccinated and immune. Is it possible to have a hepatitis-free baby, or is there a chance of transmission from my side to the baby?

I would appreciate any good suggestions. Thank you!

Perhaps this might help ease your concerns. Real life HepB experience on having children towards end of the video.

HI @Max04,

This is the ideal situation when a potential father is hep B positive and the potential mother hep B negative. There is negligible risk of transmission to the mother and the new born in this situation. Good luck with planning your family!

Regarding your ALT levels, they are considered a little elevated, so you may want to consult with your clinician regarding potential causes of this.

Hope this helps,
Thomas
