Where do I stand?

Hello,
Just got to know about this community and overwhelmed to see support @Thomas Tu and other experts are providing to this community.
I got diagnosed with HBV in June 2022 when I went for donation of the blood and then I got a call from blood donation center and they gave me the news. All my tests were done in Jan 22 and I was not having HBV at that time.

June 22 test results:
Bilirubin Total - 0.74
Bilirubin Direct - 0.12
Bilirubin Indirect - 0.62
AST (SGOT) - 46.0
ALT (SGPT) - 63.0
HEPATITIS B VIRAL (HBV DNA), QUANTITATIVE - 6815
HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGEN; HBsAg - 36599.91

My doctor suggested to take Entecavir .25 mg, I took it for 10 days and in the meanwhile I took second opinion from other doctors also so that asked me stop taking it for now as viral load is not that high and it might be in acute phase also which will get cleared automatically.

In July 2022, I got the HBV DNA test done again and the target was not detected.

October 22 test results:
Bilirubin Total - 0.50
Bilirubin Direct - 0.09
Bilirubin Indirect - 0.41
AST (SGOT) - 32.0
ALT (SGPT) - 52.0
HEPATITIS B VIRAL (HBV DNA), QUANTITATIVE - 10445

Questions which I have in my mind

  1. should this be considered a acute phase or not?
  2. Should I start taking anti-virals or wait?

Dear @ramanuj,

Thanks for your question and for sharing your story.

Regarding your results, if your HBsAg is still positive/reactive and your HBV DNA is more than 0, then you still have an infection.

Regarding whether you should take antivirals, it is unclear to me and this is something you need to discuss with your doctor. I don’t think there are any clear recommendations that you should be taking them.

Thomas
